Athens Human Rights Festival 4/15/2000

The Athens Human Rights Festival has been an Athens Institution for 42 years raising awareness on various human rights issues local and global. It began in 1979 as a commemorative to the students killed in the Kent State and Jackson State massacres of May 1970. A lively street event on College Square Downtown Athens, the festival featured music, speakers, political action, art exhibits, children’s parades, etc.. On the evening of April 15th 2000, Breathlanes (John, Elissa, Dave, Jamie) had the honor of appearing for a set just prior to the keynote speaker, Father Roy Bourgeois (Jesuit Priest, activist, and critic of American foreign policy in Central America). The set is featured here. Veteran sound man Rick Wallace did us the favor of coming down from the 40 Watt Club at the last minute to engineer the sound, helping to make it one of many Athens community pull together happenings over the years.
